At Tyler Cooper, we believe lawyers have a professional obligation to support those who are unable to pay for legal services.  That's why our firm donates thousands of hours every year to pro bono matters.

It should come as no surprise, then, that the Connecticut Bar Association's Legal Services Award is named for a former partner of the firm, and that the New Haven Legal Assistance Association was founded largely through the efforts of former partner James W. Cooper.  Continuing in that tradition of commitment to pro bono legal services, one of our partners recently retired to work pro bono publico for the New Haven Legal Assistance Association.

As a signatory to the American Bar Association's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge, each year Tyler Cooper sets a minimum goal of spending an amount of time equal to three percent of the firm's total billable hours on pro bono work.  We encourage every lawyer in the firm to engage in some pro bono activity every year, and we take those activities into account when conducting evaluations of associates and peer reviews of our partners.
