Tyler Cooper recognizes the importance of providing our lawyers with the technology that they need to communicate with our clients and produce an excellent work product. We are constantly upgrading existing technology and adding new technology.
Communication Tools, Web, Client Extranets
Tyler Cooper provides lawyers with Blackberry devices, PDAs and cell phones to ensure that they are able to communicate with clients from any location.
The use of video conferencing equipment in our New Haven and Hartford offices allows our lawyers to communicate with clients face-to-face without incurring the expense of travel. Meetings with clients can be scheduled with minimal notice, and we will explore linking our video capability with our key clients in 2006.
Broadband access to the Internet has made it a reliable and common communication tool. Tyler Cooper has made a major investment in web-based technology. We are currently developing client extranets, which will allow our lawyers to provide clients with information about the matter on which we are working, as well as relevant industry specific information.
Litigation Support Tools
The handling of litigation matters has evolved and changed with improvements in technology and litigation support systems. By using technology, lawyers have become more efficient and organized in the development of case strategies and trial presentation.
The production of electronic files, including Email messages, has become an integral part of the discovery process. By working with third party vendors, we take electronic and paper documents and convert them into searchable text and images that we can load onto systems that are maintained internally. These paper documents can be organized and coded for privilege and relevance. Lawyers can efficiently search for documents, thereby reducing costs for clients.
If a trial becomes necessary, we use technology to enhance the presentation of a case for the jury and judge.
Electronic Mail
For many clients, electronic mail has become the primary method of communication with Tyler Cooper lawyers. Clients expect Email systems to function as reliably as the telephone. Our lawyers use Lotus Notes for their desktop Email, calendar, and address book. We run Lotus Domino on an IBM AS400. The combination of the Domino Email server and the AS400 architecture prevents our Email system from being prone to attacks by viruses. We add additional protection to our Email system and network by trapping viruses through a Spam filtering gateway. As a result, we are able to maintain a very stable Email system.
